Dear Reader,
In this edition, I want to share a strategy I learned early in my TCS career that had significantly contributed to my success. These strategies are based on the principles outlined in the book “The Strategy of the Dolphin,” which I applied in the early 90’s to guide TCS. The essence of this strategy lies in adaptability, open and intensive two-way communication, and fostering and nurturing a culture of teamwork.
Dolphins are highly intelligent marine mammals renowned for their social behavior, agility, and exceptional communication skills. Their strategy is built on adaptability, quick response to environmental changes, and strong social connection. Dolphins’ intelligence (read market intelligence) allows them to swiftly assess and react to their surroundings (adapting) while their curiosity and learning abilities (read lifelong learning) enable continuous adaptation and innovation, helping them thrive in diverse and unpredictable marine environments.
How can we today apply the dolphin strategy to our logistics company, which handles nationwide deliveries?
By leveraging real-time data analytics and AI, we can predict and respond to changing conditions, optimizing both air and land routes for maximum efficiency. Training staff to handle multiple roles during peak periods to ensure seamless operations. An integrated on-line communication platform (like Quickcom), can facilitate instantaneous updates across the supply chain, keeping everyone informed and aligned. Focusing on customer preferences and feedback allows us to offer flexible delivery options, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Moreover, the dolphin strategy emphasises a customer-centric approach. Dolphins are known for their playful and friendly nature, and organizations that adopt this strategy (sponsorship of and creating CSR events) aim to create positive and personalised experiences for their customers. By understanding and meeting customer needs effectively, we can build strong, long-lasting relationships and customer loyalty.
In conclusion, the dolphin strategy centers around adaptability, agility, teamwork, and a customer-focused approach. Organizations that embrace these principles are better equipped to thrive in an ever-changing business landscape, successfully navigate challenges by making Big Leaps to emerge as industry leaders.
